⚡️ The 5 Habits You Already Know (But Need to Start Doing)

+ Stoicism Virtues & More

Hola!

This is BAD S again - an email hot like it’s the middle of August 🥵

Let’s go!

These 5 simple habits can dramatically improve your life and cut the risk of health issues and depression. We all know them, but the stakes are so high that a reminder is always worth it.

  • Sleep and rest. We all need to sleep at least 6 hours per day, ideally 7 to 9 hours. Take a short nap (20-30 minutes) during the day if you can and if it makes you feel better. Meditation is a great way to calm yourself and help your mind rest. Look for guided meditations (or affirmations) on your music streaming app or YouTube. It only takes 10 minutes a day and may help you feel a lot better.

  • Exercise. Move that thang every day. You don’t have to go crazy; just going for a long walk 5 times a week will have immense benefits. Stretch and do some more intense cardio exercises and strength workouts when you can. Consistency is key.

  • Eat good food. Eat more veggies, fruits, whole, protein-, and fiber-rich foods. Choose lean meat (fish and chicken) over fatty red meat (pork and beef). Limit sugar intake. Cut fast food or choose more healthy options when you have to eat outside.

  • Avoid tobacco and alcohol. A drink here and there is ok, but please don’t drink every day. It may feel good now, but it hurts you in the long run. Tobacco is a pain in the a** to give up; everyone who has ever smoked knows it’s hard af. If you are hooked, never stop trying to get rid of it. Don’t get discouraged if you fail. If you really want to stop, eventually you will.

  • Cultivate relationships and interests. Hang out with friends often. Participate in communities. Join a sports team or a band. Spend time on your hobbies and pick new ones. Find groups with similar interests and go to their meetups. All of these nourish your soul, keep you fresh, and make your life more interesting.

The main virtues of stoicism are courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom. Practice these in your daily life.

Free yourself from the expectations of others. It’s your life. Do you.

Don’t punish people for trying new things and being bad at them or admitting they’re wrong about something. Support and encourage instead. Everyone will love you for that.

Compliment people often. Many have trouble thinking of themselves as smart, beautiful, or interesting. We need someone to tell us. It’s simple, costs nothing to you, and you can really make someone’s day.

Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Bucket List

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

Mark Twain, “Roughing It”

Beach of the week: Canto De La Playa, Saona Island, Dominican Republic. Accessible only by boat. No commercial activity (yet). Just soft sand, turquoise water, and palm trees. I don’t know about you, but that’s all I need. 🏝️

That’s the letter for this week. Have fun and see you next time! 🤙
